The expression "...Drainage wurde zur (Ergußpunktion) gezogen" is a grammatical construction (etw. wird zu X gezogen) called FVG (Funktionsverbgefüge) meaning that it is semantically equivalent to saying "use/utilize", "it underwent the procedure of".

The expression "Ergußpunktion = effusion puncture" is a medical term (see link).

Your sentence could be translated as
Drainage was utilized in effusion puncture since the effusion was completely drained.

I reversed the word-order because it sounds better like this in English...
