CI vs. RG Notice that two abbreviations are commonly found in PT-BR documents for this purpose. CI (carteira de identidade) and RG (registro geral). We usually translate RG as "identity card", as CI is not very common and it's rare to have both CI and RG in the same document. However, if that's the case, RG could also be "general (citizen) registration number".
