Hello,
"Pour toutes ces applications, et notamment dans le cas de l'assistance au freinage, un bon maintien de la dépression et un temps d'établissement du vide très court sont des exigences fondementales."
do "void breakage" or "vacuum drawing time" make any sense?
I hope you can help with the suitable term for my context
Thank you

vacuum creation time
I think one talks of vacuums being "created". In order to measure the time taken, the degree of vacuum would need to be defined.

: Appears to be supported by very few actual Google hits. / Not 'wrong', but certainly suggests it may not be the term in most widespread use.

True, but that doesn't make it wrong and it is more elegant than "the time required to create a vacuum", which is another valid way of putting it.// Perhaps it may catch on now I've suggested it. ;)

time for establishment of a vacuum; time for development of a vacuum
(There is no need to edit the author here, for the English audience.)
Alternative: time for establishment of the vacuum.
Alternative: time for establishment of an underpressure.
("Underpressure" is typically used in English documents to indicate a mild vacuum not particularly close to 0 mmHg.)

: 'underpressure' is probably better, note we are talking here simply about 'depression'.

Engineers routinely also use "vacuum". It depends on whether the author is a scientist or an engineer.

: My instinct was you're right, but for typical braking systems the use of a pump is mainly restricted to diesel cars. And the source (a patent http://bit.ly/10uMKZ7) doesn't seem to be specific in this regard.

Thanks, Duncan! The generic term 'pumpdown' is used even in contexts where there isn't a specific 'pump' as such.
