Il tempo viene per chi sa aspettare
If you want to translate it with a proverb, rather than in a literal way, this is what I'd say.
(The time comes for those who wait)

Il tempo viene per chi sa aspettare.
All things come to those who wait.
With Google and a bit of patience I also found:
I sogni si avverano per chi sa aspettare (dream come true to those who wait)
Tutto arriva per chi sa aspettare (Everything comes to those....)
However I would go for the first solution, as more proverb like and tight.

Comment: "I needed to say this to a friend. I have no knowledge of Italian language although I am 75% Italian myself. Thanks"

Tutto arriva per chi sa aspettare
Come riportato da Paola nella spiegazione, questo e' il proverbio che mia nonna diceva sempre...

Chi la dura la vince
Dear Kim,
this is MY grandmother's refrain :) The general sense is, that those who hang on and wait will win (have the good part of it).
Hope it helps!
ALl versions are good though :)
