Medical (general)
drug research
Here is the text from Infrmed consent form for a drug research. Does "medical condition" mean "disease" here or mean just a combination of each word's meaning -"medical" and "condition" (in other words, meaning "state of health", "condition of health")?
If you choose to stop being a part of this study, you must first notify the Study Doctor immediately so that a plan can be provided for your continued medical care, if need be. At the time you stop taking part in the study you will be asked to return for a final safety evaluation that will include gathering information about your current ***medical condition*** and conduct of any protocol required procedures. For your own safety, you should go through the termination procedures any time you leave the study, similar to procedures noted at the “end of treatment visit”, and make arrangements for your follow up care.

Sorry. I hit enter before finishing my explanation. I have translated over 100 informed consent forms and positively know that in the final visit, whether it is the last study visit scheduled or because the patient decided to leave the study, the patient's state of health is assessed.

Dr Sue Levy (X)
: yes in this example it's definitely the state of health (or illness if you like) - especially since it's qualified by "current"

: The term can mean "state of health" or "illness" depending on the context. Here the context favours "state of health".

: Undoubtedly it means the state of health of the participant in the study - it is to make sure there is nothing the matter with him/her so they can't sue later ;-)
