Could anyone imagine in those days addressing any of the staff by their christian names? Unfortunately relaying these tales to our children and now grandchildren only goes to prove to them that we are really ancient!

Yeah but they are really ancient there - 60 odd plus! Where do they come from????
Beats me!
I didn't think OAPs were even allowed in Dubai

it makes you look positively antediluvian / like an old fogey
Examples:
A few minutes later, out came a positively antediluvian couple. They were SO old, they couldn't even stand up straight.

Hell, Joe-- since you're older than me, you're lucky he didn't say you were "positively antediluvian!"

will make you sound decrepit / like an old codger / like a grandad
a rude awakening that you're no spring chicken
That's the idea, I believe.
More literally, something that gives you a 2-century slap in the face
I hope this helps.

Thank you, Catherine! The other translations are forgetting the "rude awakening" or "slap in the face" idea. It's just not realizing you're age, but in a sudden, harsh kind of way.
