Context: a manager is meeting with an underperforming employee. This meeting is called "une rencontre de redressement", presumably to get the employee to improve/turn around his/her performance. Not sure how to render this in Eng.

@AllegroTrans. Sorry if wasn't clear. I believe it will affect the translation if the context demands that it is clear that the meeting is specifically called to addresss the underperformance as opposed to it just being brought up at a routine appraisal meeting held with all employees as a matter of course eg once a year or more frequently as per company policy. Am trying to say that if this meeting is being specifically called to address the underperformance as eg precursor to next step being to start disciplinary proceedings, then it is important to find a way to specify that and "performance review" on its own may not be strong enough as it could also suggest the routine review. As you say we don't have more context, though the asker suggests it is specifically being called to address the underperformance. I think this could be resolved by adding 'calling a formal meeting to address the employee's underperformance" as in my p.s. comment or by adding the words "calling a formal" to your suggested translation. I have not posted my suggestion as an alternative because I think yours could be right depending on emphasis in asker's context. Hope that is a little clearer...

P.s. I've had to call such meetings & HR colleagues just referred to them as 'call the person in for a formal meeting' (in spoken terms as opposed to any formal written procedures outlined for the organisation). Hence my suggesting inclusion of the words calling & formal and ensuring that the context and purpose of the meeting is clear. Perhaps alternatively "call /set up a formal meeting with the employee to discuss/address his/her underperformance"? Exact wording (eg. Tense of call) to be worked into wider sentence.

Improvement comment Presumably either way the improvements have to happen after the meeting? If they do. Typically the meeting would draw employee's attention to the areas of underperformance and indicate/work out steps for improvement by a certain time. If no improvement disciplinary procedures could be next step. Performance review meeting could be used in this context but would need to be differentiated from a usual run of the mill review/appraisal as per my note. More context might help fine tune the wording?

Googling should be part of every translator's toolkit, along with dictionaries, glossaries, a Thesaurus and lateral thinking + a measured degree of wisdom to sort out what information to trust.

Googling one's own thoughts does help Seeing the full context should help make it clear. I didn't mean just blindly googling the phrase. Translation often takes time and thought. Not every phrase used is a standard phrase.

The problem with an "improvement meeting" imo is that the omprovements (if they happen) take place AFTER the meeting, whilst with a "review meeting" the purpose is to disciss what is below standard and how the employee can make improvements.

Well we simply don't know; asker simply says it's a meeting; it may (ot may not) be run of the mill, I cannot see how that affects the translation, parhaps you have a better solution to post?

A possible alternative to "improvement meeting" (which I was also going to suggest, Marco got there first!), based on the description in this article entitled "Gérer les écarts de vos employés":

"Les réponses obtenues contribueront à l’élaboration de votre plan de redressement, qui permettra à l’employé d’identifier l’écart entre ce qui est attendu de lui et ce que l’on observe. Du coup, ce dernier saura quelles seront les conséquences s’il ne s’implique pas activement dans la démarche. Ainsi, la situation doit être clairement exposée afin de lui faire comprendre qu’il n’est pas face au choix d’agir ou non, mais bien à la responsabilité d’agir pour corriger la situation. Assurez-vous toutefois de lui démontrer qu’il pourra compter sur votre soutien sincère. Si l’employé décide de son plein gré de faire autrement, il lui appartiendra d’en assumer les conséquences."
