Dragage d’entretien périodique pour la navigation


Le dragage d’entretien périodique a pour but d’enlever les sédiments accumulés au fond d’un chenal afin de conserver la profondeur nominale des installations existantes destinées à l’utilisation du public comme les voies de navigation, les ports, les marinas, les rampes de mise à l’eau et les installations portuaires. Il ne comprend pas le dragage d’un chenal à d’autres fins, par exemple pour l’installation de drains agricoles ou de prises d’eau. Ce type de dragage s’effectue à intervalles réguliers (p. ex., au moins une fois tous les cinq ans) et ne prévoit aucun agrandissement de la zone draguée. Habituellement, le dragage se fait par des moyens mécaniques, comme une benne à traction, une pelle à benne traînante ou encore une rétrocaveuse. La menace la plus importante pour l’habitat du poisson provient de l’augmentation de la quantité des sédiments en suspension dans la colonne d’eau durant le dragage et la perturbation qui s’ensuit pour les étapes sensibles du cycle de vie du poisson.

Maintenance dredging refers to the routine removal of accumulated sediment from channel beds to maintain the design depths of navigation channels, harbours, marinas, boat launches, and port facilities. As defined by the corps of Engineers - Baltimore, routine maintenance dredging is conducted regularly for navigational purposes (at least once every five years) and typically does not include any expansion of the previously dredged area.
