I am having a problem with the Leidenschaft bit. Maybe it means the other guy's enthusiasm makes him passionately happy and he gives several pots away as presents. Is that it?

Die Frage wäre, aus welchem Grund freut er sich udn man könnte antworten, aus Leidenschaft, nur Leidenschaft ist normalerweise eine relativ dauerhafte Eigemschaft, so dass die Analogie: er ist aus Verzweiflung betrübt oder niedergeschlagen nur annäherend ist.
Es könnte hypothethisch ergänzt werden aus Leidenschaft für seinen Beruf, dann erhielte der Satz mehr Sinn.
