short crop
My attempt at the whole sentence:
Long tresses or short crop – all you need to look good is the right haircare and a few simple tricks.
I am suggesting a more communicative version, after all this is a marketing text, perhaps from a magazine?
A Mecki is a short crop, so short in fact, that the hair stands up by itself resembling a hedghog. The way I see it, the text uses the colloquial Mähne and Mecki (alliteration?) to describe superlong vs supershort hair. I can't think of an equivalent way to convey this in English, hence I've opted for long tresses vs short crop.
hope it helps

Thanks. Now I don't feel so old any more. I thought maybe 'crew cuts' were a thing of the past.
