German term

Satzaufgabe

German to English Other Music Examination part
This is a part of an examination in a study programme at a music academy. "Satz" has so many meanings generally and also several in the context of music. I feel it is maybe something like "Structural task" or "Task looking at musical structure" - at first I even had "composition task" deriving from satztechnerisch - compositional - however I am not sure about this at all and would appreciate any help from experts.
Proposed translations (English)
2 +3 harmony
4 -1 task set

Thank you for the input first of all. I still cannot find any translation or reference that would equate to Satz meaning "harmony". There is Harmonielehre of course but this has no "Satz" in it. Tonsatz also I did not find to mean harmony except in "four-part harmony". Are there any comments on the suitability of "structural task" as this seems to cover a wider scope which I feel is inherent in "Satz" and also equates to Tonsatz.

"Harmony" (or in combination with whatever you're using for "Aufgabe", possibly "harmony task" or "harmony exercise" etc.) might work.

CL is 5 for the explanation (see reference section), but 2 for the translation.

agree Stephanie Busch : I did two terms of Harmonielehre at uni; we did not get to compose anything, but either had to analyze the chords of a musical piece, or to provide chords for an existing melody.

Thanks! It's still more than analyzing or providing chords - you have to write out the individual voices as well.
agree David Wright : Yes, we did this at school (UK Grammar school, 1960s). You migth call it "harmonising" as well

Thanks, David!
neutral philgoddard : I don't see how you arrive at this, and you haven't give any references.

Thanks, Phil. You mean how I arrive at the interpretation? I've gone through enough "Satzaufgaben" as a student, and devised enough of them as a teacher to be 100% sure. As for the translation: Yes, I'm not certain, but examples can be found,I'll add links
agree British Diana : If this is the same as "aussetzen eines 4-stimmigen Satz

Not necessarily always 4 voices, but most of the time - yes.

Reference:

Tonsatz

"Satz" ist hier kurz für "Tonsatz" - typischerweise zum Beispiel das Verfassen eines vierstimmigen Satzes für eine vorgegebene Melodie oder ähnliches. Hat nichts mit dem Formbegriff "Satz" zu tun.

Nach einer Übersetzung muss ich auch erstm mal recherchieren.
