Italian term

Sci alpinismo (vedi testo)

Italian to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation skiing/snowboarding
I have a text (a skiing brochure) which differs between ***sci alpinismo*** and ***sci alpino***, but which doesn’t actually say what the difference is.
Is there a difference, or do they both mean the same thing (i.e. alpine/downhill skiing)?

off track skiing

Ryan, you are right sci alpino = downhill skiing
Usually "sci alpinismo" is done off track and generally walking or climbing up mountains in order to reach "virgin" slopes. Much more fun than heliskiing!

grazie Sonja
agree JudyK : In the UK we would say "off-piste" skiing

disagree Anna Lettieri : off-track skiing significa sci fuoripista. In cima alla montagna si può giungere con e senza gli impianti di risalita. Nello sci alpinismo si sale a piedi.
