Это как раз про "детей-умников", которые "ходячие словари". Именно так их и называют.

Sergey (sorry for writing in English, I\'m afraid my coding won\'t work in Russian), nerd is a \"patented\" word for \"umnik\", \"umniy ochenj/slishkom\".
Has nothing to do with the person\'s social skills. Only things it has to do with - that the person is just too knowledgeable compared with an average kid/student. Reads a little too much, asks a little too many questions in class, speaks in a little too \"bookish\" language.
Lately the word \"nerd\" is even used proudly. Like \"I\'m a nerd, YES!\" And even with respect...
It can also be used to say that the person is just TOO TOO SMART, in a derogatory sense, but it is just the same as in Russian.
Umniy does not have any negative connotation, nevertheless \"umniy kakoy\", \"umniy viiskalsia\" etc. - bears an undeniable derogatory meaning.
All the above versions mean nearly the same, only \"wise-ass\", \"smart-ass\" usually does not refer to children, and does not refer specifically to BOOK knowledge, which is the key here...
