From the description of the Palacio de las Cadenas in Úbeda, Andalusia;
"Dos leones tallados en piedra dan entrada a una DIÁFANA LONJA donde se levanta el Palacio de las Cadenas."
Pictures appear to show a stone-paved forecourt.

open portico/porch
One of the meanings of “lonja” (according to Simon & Schuster’s dict.) is portico or porch.
Lonja 3. f. Atrio algo levantado del piso de las calles, al que regularmente salen las puertas de los templos y otros edificios.
http://www.rae.es/
por•ti•co n. pl. por•ti•coes or por•ti•cos
A porch or walkway with a roof supported by columns, often leading to the entrance of a building.
porch P Pronunciation Key (pôrch, p rch)
n.
1. A covered platform, usually having a separate roof, at an entrance to a building.
2. An open or enclosed gallery or room attached to the outside of a building; a verandah.
Porch : The reception space situated at the entrance to a church or cathedral.

Diáfono is often translated as “open” when it refers to space. I get the idea of a portico with open sides.

I've come back to this question because I have just run into "lonja" in the text I'm working on, and the sentence said "con un patio o lonja delantero"--and there was no portico in the photo of my building. I did a quick search for "Palacio de las Cadenas" to see if I could find the photo of your building. If yours is in Úbeda, then portico isn't right--it doesn't have one. On that basis, I would go with "open forecourt"--as I said, diáfano here refers to the "sin obstáculos" meaning, not light.
