Turkish term

Discussion

Sonia Erem (asker) Dec 22, 2010:
Söz konusu mahkeme Yunanistan'dadır. "Court of Appeal for Serious Crimes" olarak "Criminal Law in Greece" kitabında geçer: http://www.amazon.com/Criminal-Law-Greece-Konstantinos-Magli... Katkılarınız için teşekkür ederim.
Tim Drayton Dec 16, 2010:
I stand by my claim. I stand by my claim that there is no kind of court in Turkey with this generic name. 'İstinaf' is a general word meaning appeal. The new Regional Courts of Justice will serve as appeal courts, providing a level of middle instance below the Court of Cassation(Yargıtay). I beleive that the reference here is to a court in another country. Let us agree to differ.
Erkan Dogan Dec 16, 2010:
Correct and they are also referred as istinaf as stated in the title, but debating it is irrelevant. Most likely we're discussing Turkey due to a Turkish term asked.
Tim Drayton Dec 16, 2010:
Not the same name These courts will be known as "Bölge Adliye Mahkemeleri", as stated in the article.
Erkan Dogan Dec 16, 2010:
I think they are still planning. The gov. is a bit slow :) http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/pazar/6378057.asp?m=1

Whıch country is this court ın? There ıs no such court ın Turkey. Can you tell us which country is involved, because there are different 'accepted' English translations of court names depending on the country.

Court of Criminal Appeal

Zaten açıklamasında en az "3 yargıç" durumu mevzu bahis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Court_of_Criminal_Appeal

"...It is made up of three judges and has a majority decision."

Ama bunu da belirtelim deniyorsa 3-Member Court of Criminal Appeal ya da Court of Criminal Appeal with 3 members denebilir. Netekim farklı sayılarda olabiliyormuş (Texas'taki 8 yargıçlı mesela http://www.cca.courts.state.tx.us/)

Example sentence:

The Court of Criminal Appeal hears cases which have been appealed from the Circuit Court, Central Criminal Court and...

Three-member Court of Appeal in Serious Criminal Matters

If the reference is to France, this is probably the most authoratative rendering. See:

http://sydney.edu.au/law/slr/slr31/slr31_1/McKillop.pdf

"An article by the author, published in the Sydney Law Review in 2006 dealt primarily with the establishment in France from 2001 of a court of appeal in serious criminal matters comprising jurors (12) and judges (3) named the cour d’assises d’appel."

This will probably work for other jurisdictions as well.
