Can they be located? May 12, 2014

Jeff Whittaker wrote:
Why can't we locate them and have a local translator call the local police and have them visit this "company's" office/home/kitchen.
That reminds me of a principle probably worth following: if a translation agency doesn't give you a geographical location (i.e postal address), preferably in the email but if not the email, a website address in the email and the address in the website, it's probably best not to have any communication with that agency.

More spam from these illiterate fools Nov 6, 2014

These are the horrible emails I received. Notice how awful the English is. It is also obvious that it is being sent to a mailing list because my personal email address is not even listed. I knew it could not be real because no one in the language industry could be that stupid. There isn't even any real website (in order to avoid listing their address, surely). Who asks a person to translate into a foreign language? It just doesn't make any sense!

CAUTION FREELANCERS! COME ALIVE COMMUNICATIONS fraudulently targeted by Ramallah-based company/indiv Apr 5, 2018

Come Alive Communications, Inc. (West Grove, PA USA) has been the victim of fraudulent use of identity and several documented attempts to solicit work from unsuspecting freelance translators around the globe.

Certain linguists were solicited work on behalf of a fraudulent contact posing to be from our company. Others accepted jobs and/or completed assignments and were subsequently never paid or responded to.

The perpetrator(s) have particularly targeted Come Alive’s Director of Multilingual Communications, Bridget G. Hylak, in their emails. Ms. Hylak is a duly certified court interpreter (AOPC), certified translator (ATA), and federal oral court interpreter exam candidate (FCICE), a Stanford University graduate in languages and communications, and has enjoyed a pristine record of interaction with freelancers around the globe for over two decades.

Come Alive’s IT department has traced the culprit’s IP address to Ramallah, Palestine, with the following coordinates:

37.8.88.201 Country Code=PS, State/Province=00, City=Ramallah, Postal Code=, Latitude=31.9000,

Reports have been made with local authorities and the FBI.

COME ALIVE COMMUNICATIONS, INC. values its many fruitful and longstanding relationships with dedicated professionals of the highest caliber around the globe. DO NOT TRUST ANY address that is NOT from our official company domain, @comealiveusa.com

As a reminder, new/inexperienced linguists should note never to begin work with any company without a purchase order and duly executed onboarding documents. Such documents lend credibility to any requesting translation company. The lack of the same can pose a risk to any linguist or other freelance contractor.

Thank you.

Scammed by Languagemet Apr 9, 2018

I was just scammed by Alaa Mahmoud at Languagemet, although he is using a new domain to scam people "Wordsvoice.com".

I did a series of work for him which he paid for, but it was smaller amounts. Then he sent me one big project for 60.000 words and the payment would be 1917 USD.

I have not received 1 cent of this money and he is since ignoring my e-mails and have disappeared. I was not aware that he was a scammer since he did pay me for the smaller projects, so I was no

I have bought http://wordsvoice-scammer.com/ and have made this information public. Be aware of anyone contacting you from LANGUAGEMET or WORDSVOICE, since it will most likely be with the intention of scamming. Anybody willing to share their story are welcome to create a user on my website and share it there.
