Could Proz give topic posters/thread hosts in the non-English forums a 'preferred language' option. Is this a good idea, or not. Regarding language choices and preferences in the non-English forums, how about offering a 'preferred language' option at topic/thread level (like Kudoz). Kudoz Askers have the facility to nominate "Language preferred for answer explanations". (See the last/bottom box of the KudoZ asking screen.) I think that is really good, even though a l... I think that is really good, even though a lot of peers don't use it. It's available for those that want it. Perhaps topic posters/thread hosts could be given this option too. Why not. The more choice the better? I guess it might have to be a new facility applying to all forums, or perhaps it could be arranged just for the 'non-English' forums. Perhaps the Proz management could comment on what is possible. I think it might be a really good thing for the non-English forums and communities. It would give the topic posters the opportunity to name their preference, and to have some influence over the language of the comments received in their email inbox. And it would be consistent with Kudoz. It would also be a way for peers (if they wanted to) to deal with any unwelcome people who 'butt in' on their conversations in another language. ▲ Collapse | | | wherestip 米国 Local time: 17:01 中国語 から 英語 + ... [Edited at 2007-01-03 20:37] Lesley, It seems to me that this suggestion should be posted in the KudoZ Forum, instead of here. I would think that you could reach the staff member for the KudoZ issues more directly and quicker, instead of detouring from, say, China. Kevin

The topic is not about Kudoz. It is about the Chinese forum. TongliUSA wrote: wherestip wrote: I changed my mind about giving an opinion. I hope you don't mind. I like your suggestion | Jan 3, 2007 |
But I think post the suggestion in the "ProZ.com Suggestions" Forum is better and more useful. An option of preferred language used for replies in a forum thread, but the thread poster is free to use the option or not. I really like the idea. I think It could solve the problem just been raised regarding "designated forum language". This will give each poster an option to designate his/her topic/thread one language only. It seems more feasible and reasonable than making a whole forum one designate language only. Kevin | | |
