"touring the ruins"

Again, a non-standard phrase, so in quotes. This suggests the 19th-century Grand Tour to me.
Peer comment(s):

agree Birgit Gläser : has the right irreverent ring to it - just like "Trümmertourismus" which is in quotes anyway...

ruin-visiting

Would need inverted commas, as in the German, as it isn't a standard term.

as were in after World War II. Heutzutage wird dasselbe geboten allerdings unter der Bezeichnung Studienreise.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Armorel Young : unless this is going to sound horribly "translated" you'd need to use "visits" instead of "travels" and "ancient ruins" instead of "antique remnants" - English refers to Ancient Greece, not Antique Greece, so "antique" isn't really appropriate here

neutral Helen Shiner : Agree with Armorel

or "Archaeotourism", a type of "cultural tourism"

See Wikipeidia entry:

"Archaeological tourism can include all products associated with public archaeological promotion, including visits to archaeological sites, museums, interpretation centers, etc..."
