Habla la dueña de una casa palaciega de 5 plantas. Es imposible que mida 17 pies... ¿Qué quiere decir?

It could well be only 17 feet wide. In some English-speaking countries, property taxes were determined based on frontage: how wide the facade was. So it was most economical to build narrow houses that were tall and deep. I used to own a very narrow 19th-century house.

agree Steven Capsuto : I'd definitely go with a metric-system conversion. BTW, the 19th-century house I used to own was about 5 meters feet wide, but it was deep and tall. See my note above about the tax reasons for these narrow homes.

Thank you much, Steven! I do totally agree with your note, taxes could be based on the facade width or even the number of windows. The reduced width could also be due to the limitations of a single spam timber beam as used in Tudor houses.
