| Report from Nicole L. R. | Overall this powwow was a success and a very interesting experience.
After years of living in Malmö and always on the scout for a local powwow I decided to take a chance and organize one myself.
Thought the best way would be to invite local translators for a coffee and some nice talk, to ensure that it would not look like a business appointment. And, of course, I had to patiently wait until the spring, as I know how the weather is important and affects people's disposition to go out - including my own :)
During the 3-4 months prior to the powwow day, 11 participants expressed interest in coming. One day before the event I sent some direct messages confirming the date, time and place of the event to all of them, and also to some other translators based in Malmö or in cities close to here. I used the search tool (users) and the direct message system from Proz to do so.
Several translators wrote back saying they had no idea this powwow was going to happen because they had not seen it in the Proz site, etc... but all of them expressed their interest to come. Some came, some hoped there will be another powwow soon, so that they can come.
On the day of the event 6 people met at Kafferosteriet (Me, Matts, Anna, Marianna, Tania, and Mikael). We had a booked table in a very cozy room in the third floor. It was a sunny day, so most people were out in the garden of the café, and our floor was empty. This was very good, because not only it was very quiet, but it also added to the feeling that the café was all ours, so we chatted and laughed away for two hours.
Lots of background and business management stories came up. As well as the usual, but always interesting to hear: how did you become a translator stories? What are your expertise areas? etc. and all the good stuff that comes with it.
We exchanged experiences and valuable tips about the profession, the market and using Proz website, while having the famous Swedish fika!
Soon it was already 5.p.m and we had a waiter kindly asking us to leave the place because it was about to close. But there was still time to talk about maybe doing this again and also about the possibility of organizing a Proz Conference in Sweden, which I am 100% percent interested in doing (as well as Matts!) and 110% hoping other powwow members are interested in helping out too.
We will talk about it next time we meet, which might happen later in August or in the beginning of September, as so many people seem to be away in the summer.
I would like to thank the Proz team for creating a section and system for Powwow. Without it, it would have been impossible or, in the very least, very complicated, to make this event happen. I also want to thank all the participants for showing up. I had a very nice time and I hope they did too.

Dear all,
I just wanted to thank you all for attending the first Proz powwow in Malmö. I had a lovely time and I hope you had too.
It was very pleasant and interesting to meet each of you and to hear about your experiences as translators and to share valuable tips.
Unfortunately, it felt like the event was a bit too short. Specially considering that some of you drove hours to get to Malmö and others came from Copenhagen and even from Slovakia! Maybe next time it can happen a bit earlier in the day, so that we have more time before the cafes close.
Talking about next time: it looks like it will happen later in August or in the beginning of September, as so many people seem to be away in the summer. I got messages from several translators who wanted to have participated but that were out of town on vacation. So I guess September is a good bet to meet more people and learn some more.
