Discussion

Bubo Coroman (X) May 31, 2009:
gracias Bea por la aclaración me hace pensar en una doctora de filosofía para la que hago revisiones en inglés y que se refiere indistintamente a sus "trabajos" y "papers", por eso mi respuesta sería igual como la de Nikki.
Beatriz Ramírez de Haro (asker) May 31, 2009:
Es el curriculum de un doctorando en historia, y los trabajos en cuestión son textos excritos por él. ¡Mil gracias a todos por las estupendas propuestas!
Bubo Coroman (X) May 31, 2009:
Hi Bea, what is his field of specialization, and.. does trabajos refer to texts he has written or projects he has worked on?

Hi - given the context, I think "key texts" would work well...
Note from asker:
Hi Edward, "key" is excellent, but I am not so sure about "achievements" in this particular case. What would be your best choice for written texts?
Peer comment(s):

agree Noni Gilbert Riley : I like "key". Perhaps "key posts" (if they are jobs) or "key projects" if they are things done while in that post.

neutral Carol Gullidge : erm, outstanding jobs sounds rather like jobs that still need to be done - jobs on the "to-do" list :))

outstanding works

You sais it has to do with an author. Therefore, I would use "works."

Thanks, Carol.
neutral Marcelo González : I completely agree with the use of "works" in the context of writings (i.e., articles and books), but I'm not so sure about the use of "outstanding" as a header on a CV to describe one's own writing. It would be unusual, at best.

most important articles and papers

or most significant, key, etc.

I am assuming, as you mention autor and campo that the trabajos refer to articles published and papers at conferences, for example.

Thank you. We seem to have "seen" a lot of each other today. Hope you had a good one!
agree Christine Walsh : If there are also actual books, maybe 'works' /// Yes, I know what you mean, though it is quite common.

I think I would be inclined to then say "books, articles, and papers" as my gut feeling is not to like works in this context.
agree Silvia Hanine-Studnicki : or just significant articles and papers

Another option might be "noteworthy..." (though I definitely prefer "notable" in this context).

As for "OUTSTANDING works," the use of this adjective on a CV would be unusual, at best. If the list refers only to written works, I would definitely go with "notable" or "noteworthy" (both of which are commonly used in the context of writing).

I hope this helps!

To the extent the "trabajos" are, in fact, published, you might consider "__________ published works" (as such a header would be quite common on a CV, at least in the US).

Exactly. It would cover all of the usually work, i.e., journal articles/papers, books, chapters in anthologies, etc. Thanks, Susana!
