A grave in a cemetary always measures 6 foot six in standard terms...

It must measure at least this but then a person can choose a bigger one.

6 feet and 6 inches although most often referred to as 6 foot or six foot deep. It is in fact, the depth of the grave. So your text is referring to the capacity of the (machine?)

Originally considered essential for the purpose of hygiene but hardly very effective really with diseases like HIV AIDS, etc.

neutral Tony M : That rather gratuitous post note isn't in fact even technically accurate: in fact, HIV is quite a fragile virus, and doesn't survive long outside a living body; unlike things like anthrax etc.
