French term

détaré

French to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Trucks
I'm looking for the English term for "détaré", concerning the engine on a Renault Trucks vehicle (Master). It's written in the specifications for the different engines: 2,3 dCi (125 hk détaré).
I need it in Norwegian, but if I can at least find the term in English, it will help me out. Thanks!

chris collister Jan 7, 2010:
derating Many components, including engines, are derated to prolong their life or increase reliability. Derating just means that the engine is "nobbled", either by software in the ECU or by physically inserting a restrictor in the inlet, or by restricting the maximum revs and/or power. Sometimes (rare these days) the compression ratio can be reduced by inserting an extra cylinder head gasket.

neutral Catharine Cellier-Smart : seems to apply to the aviation industry more than the automotive industry

Not necessarily. I nearly wrote flat-rated, but realised that that was for the aviation industry.

e.g. to reduce the cc or the hp on the documents to avoid extra obligations or taxes

neutral Catharine Cellier-Smart : I'm no specialist, but would 'downgraded engine' really be in the specifications ?

flat-rated

The goal is to give a lower performance of the engine than it could deliver by manufacturing (i.e. torque, power).
