agree Ben Gaia : yup.

thanks Ben :-)
neutral MatthewLaSon : I've never known "dan la durée" to mean "in the long-term." I think it means simply "over time" (dans/avec le temps).

to lay down the basis / establish the conditions for

a long-term partnership.

Unless (more context?) the partnership has indeed been in place for some time and the writer wants to make that clear to the other person, who might not appreciate either that it has existed for so long or, because of that, that it is so important (in the eyes of the writer, of course). In which case you might be looking at "to establish/demonstrate that this partnership has been in place for quite some time already". In this case, the writer, however valuable he believes the partnership to be, is not stressing its importance, in case the other person does not see things that way, merely the fact that it has been in place for some time (and therefore, supposedly, has met with the approval of precessors who - eux - deemed it important). He's not sticking his neck out enough to get it chopped off, but sticking to uncontroversial - indeed, incontrovertible - fact.

neutral MatthewLaSon : I think that "dans la durée" means "over time". That does not necessarily imply "in the long term."

Indeed. That would particularly apply to my second interpretation.

The sole objective in these few lines is to organize a partnership over time

Hello,

I would like to say that "dans la durée" does not mean "in the long-term". It simply means "dans le temps", or "over time." If it means "in the long term", I'd be very surprised. I don't know how it could mean anything else.

I hope this helps.

Please note:

It should read: The sole objective in these few lines is to organize THE partnership over time.

I don't like using two demonstrative pronouns so close to each other. Use "the" as it's a definite article.

One could also say: build the partnership over time
