French term

évacuation ou d'épuration individuelle réglementaire

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) Procuration pour vendre
Bonsoir

Oct 20, 2022 22:02: writeaway changed "Field" from "Law/Patents" to "Tech/Engineering"

Oct 21, 2022 18:13: Daryo changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Cyril Tollari, Mpoma, Daryo

Non-PRO (1): Anastasia Kalantzi

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Tony M Oct 23, 2022:
@ Daryo re: individual
Yes of course, no argument there!
But the key issue is that the distinction being made here is simply between 'évacuation' into a collective mains drainage system OR an individual treatment system.
Cf. the SPANC organisation, which deals with 'Assainissement Non Collectif'

I've translated dozens of these 'procurations' for house purchases over the years, this really is boiler-plate stuff!

@ Tony
Thanks a lot ! That is more like it overall
Daryo Oct 23, 2022:
regarding individuel(le) when it comes to inanimate objects, like houses, it turns out that in EN also it can be used in the same way as for "individuel(le)" pertaining to a single living person.
SafeTex Oct 23, 2022:
@Tony and all Hello
You are right to be wary but the terminology used for other systems in the same Codes is different to the point that I don't think there is any reasonable doubt here that it is indeed a septic tank

See for instance: https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/jorf/id/JORFTEXT000029344978

or the websites of such biological systems where they often use terms like "Procédé de traitement des eaux usées par système filtrant planté"

But I would agree that we could use Cyril's suggestion in comments to get closer to the French and cover all bases as you say
Tony M Oct 23, 2022:
@ Asker It's very important to get this right, as such a 'procuration' needs to be kept general enough to cover all bases.
In this case, 'évacuation' is not qualified by the 'individuelle', and normally refers to 'mains drainage' (= 'tout à l'égout')
'installation d'épuraton individuelle' refers to an individual sewerage treatment system, of which there are several types, and this must not be tied down to anything more specific.
Emmanuella Oct 21, 2022:
Safe Tex - c'est fort probable, cf.

SafeTex Oct 21, 2022:
@ Cyril and all Hello

I see in your reference

"(f) "Alternative On-Site Sewage Management System" means an approved on-site sewage management system which differs in design or operation from the conventional or chamber septic tank system or privy.

so whatever people now choose, I think that "septic tank" is what is meant in any case.
Cyril Tollari Oct 21, 2022:

French term (edited): installation d'évacuation ou d'épuration individuelle réglementaire
Selected

regulations compliant individual wastewater disposal or purification system

... tenir compte de l'économie réalisée par eux en évitant une installation d'évacuation ou d'épuration individuelle réglementaire
=
... taking into account savings (made / gained by them) from not having to install their own regulations compliants individual wastewater disposal or purification system.

or simply

their own regulations compliant wastewater disposal or purification system ??

An individual wastewater disposal system (IWDS) takes the wastewater from a single home or business, separates out solids, and purifies it, typically using the soil in a drain field on the property. It's also known as a septic system and can be an environmentally friendly way to get rid of wastewater if the system is well designed and properly maintained.

Permit: Individual Sewage Disposal System

Approval must be obtained from the Division of Public and Behavioral Health to construct, alter or extend an individual sewage disposal system. This approval for new construction is required before any building permit may be issued for any structure which requires an individual sewage disposal system.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Again, you have wrongly associated 'individual' with both items. In addition, in the UK at least we don't talk about 'sewerage purification', but 'treatment'

'individual' is used this way - in US at least. This might be more US usage, agree on that, but it's for sure used by people in that field.

installation of a regulatory septic tank

Hello
Some may disagree as I'm far removed from the French terms but this is what they are almost certainly referring to as this system is still quite common in France
The evacuation into the septic tank is simply tacitly understood, where the waste is then treated with products before the septic tank is taken away by a contractor specialised in this operation
Peer comment(s):

neutral Daryo : you are probably right, I don't know if a septic tank is the only possibility but still you omitted "individuel(le)"
15 hrs
We don't normally use 'individual" in that way in English. it is translated by the term "a" (one)
disagree Tony M : The general term is required here, as 'septic tank' is too specific — there are things like micro-stations, reed-beds, etc. / Yes, but my point still stands; and this is slightly different, for a procuration (I've translated dozens over the years)

What are the 3 types of sewage?
There are three types of wastewater, or sewage: domestic sewage, industrial sewage, and storm sewage. Domestic sewage carries used water from houses and apartments; it is also called sanitary sewage.

agree Daryo : can work also.

Merci bien! :-) :-)
disagree Tony M : You have incorrectly associated 'individual' with both items, which is not correct here / Still the same and in EN we don't talk about 'purification plant' — normally, for sewerage, it is 'treatment'

/ Anyway, Sewerage Treatment Plant means any arrangement of devices and structures used for treating sewerage.
