Going with my gut instinct that your context is that of a biomarker panel being used evaluate if a population responds to a drug, but it's getting late and maybe I should have proposed a more obvious answer like "part"

Ah, with the other occurrences that you've provided, then would not use "panel" here... Biomarker "section" or "part" (of the study) is more appropriate. And I need to go to bed now.
