French term

Milieu

French to English Law/Patents Metallurgy / Casting Patent application for a method of forging titanium alloys
The word "milieu" appears in a table in this document. This word is not used in the rest of the document. The document is describing a method to forge and finish titanium and titanium alloys. I am just not sure what exactly the English translation of "milieu" should be in this context.

I have an image of the table here:

As I said, this word does not appear at any other place in the document.

Thanks for your help!

in the cente

Hello Laura,

I assume they intended it in the context of "au milieu" (just as they did "en surface" or "à la surface"), making it: in the center

Sorry, I hit the "enter" button too soon: not in the cente, in the center!

Thanks! This is the type of insight I needed.

neutral TechLawDC : No metallurgist would ever use "center". (1) Not idiomatic. (2) Extremely ambiguous -- implies the exact center of the workpiece.

Inside the material; In the interior of the material

This is the opposite of "on the surface", to a metallurgical engineer.
"Center" or such a word is too specific, as it implies only one point or plane in the material, which I do not think is meant here.
Note from asker:
Ah, yes. Very true. It is the center, but it may not be understood as such by the word "center" in US English. Thanks!
Perhaps "interior"?
