French term

un après

Non-PRO French to English Marketing Tourism & Travel restaurant
Hi,

Would this be after-party? and if it is can I just put "an after"?

"la terrasse sera animée tout au long de l’hiver par un dj, pour d’inoubliables et festifs après- accompagnés d’appétissants petits-fours. "

the terrace will be *hosted* by a dj the whole winter for unforgettable festive afters with delicious petit-fours

Thank you in advance

Discussion

Sheila Wilson Nov 16, 2011:
After-work get-togethers? Any idea if it has to be aimed at tourists, or could it be for colleagues to finish the working day with a drink and petits-fours?
Louisa Tchaicha (asker) Nov 16, 2011:
yes it is about a restaurant at the foot of the ski slopes, so it must be "après-ski"
thank you
writeaway Nov 16, 2011:
Is it a ski resort? We need more context or all anyone can do is guess
Philippa Smith Nov 16, 2011:
I would have thought it was talking about "after parties", i.e. post-clubbing parties - except for the petit-fours, which don't quite seem to go with the post-clubbing scene, so maybe it is talking about "après ski", especially as it mentions winter. Any clues in the rest of the text?
Richardson Lisa Nov 16, 2011:
après ski maybe? hi
If this is a ski resort then maybe it refers to 'après ski'? Seems more likely...

neutral writeaway : but petits fours and après-ski? And don't people ski in the afternoon? Isn't après-ski later on?

agree Kelly Harrison : Aprés is any time people stop skiing and start drinking/socialising/sitting on the terrace in the sun - for many this can be as early as midday, having spent a tiring morning having lessons.

'Après ski' is used in English and for a marketing text targeted to tourists to the French Alps entirely appropriate, even a plus, for marketing purposes.

French term (edited): after ski

animation après-ski

vous devez faire précéder le terme après-ski d'un terme indiquant qu'il s'agit d'une animation (d'une party) sinon, on le confond avec le terme après-ski désignant plus communément la chaussure après-ski
Peer comment(s):

neutral writeaway : it's French-English and we need more context to even know if it's après-ski

neutral Michele Fauble : Confusion with 'chaussure après ski' is unlikely in the context.

after ski party

Or after ski get together or after ski snack or perhaps even after ski celebration.
