The text is a transcription from a documentary about teenagers with learning disabilities. Because there's a lot of "everyday" talking, the sentences are often run-ons and sometimes don't make much sense to me. In this case, I'm having trouble with "etwas, was am Rande hergemacht wird." Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Das ist für den Wert der eigenen Person von unschätzbarer Bedeutung und gerade bei diesen Schülerinnen und Schülern die ja sonst ein Stück weit am Rande stehen ist es wichtig Selbstwertgefühl zu erfahren Beifall zu bekommen, und nicht nur Beifall für irgendwas was da so am Rande hergemacht wird sondern Beifall für ne gute Leistung und das ist eigentlich der wesentliche Wert der heutigen Veranstaltung.
Das ist für den Wert der eigenen Person von unschätzbarer Bedeutung und gerade bei diesen Schülerinnen und Schülern die ja sonst ein Stück weit am Rande stehen ist es wichtig Selbstwertgefühl zu erfahren Beifall zu bekommen, und nicht nur Beifall für irgendwas was da so am Rande hergemacht wird sondern Beifall für ne gute Leistung und das ist eigentlich der wesentliche Wert der heutigen Veranstaltung.

I must say I never heard "am Rande hergemacht" before and I doubt very much that it is standard German. But I agree with the meaning Johanna suggests.

am Rande stehen can mean 'to be marginalised' so something that is 'am Rande hergemacht' is a marginal rather than a mainstream achievement. These young people want to be lauded for doing something that youngsters without learning disabilities would be interested in doing.
