To all There seems to be a bit of debate regarding this answer. I sent the translation off a while ago and I really cannot remember what term I used (I think I flagged it to client however). The reason I have not yet given points is because I would say that all answers seem relevant to me. I would go with Andreea's possibly in meaning, but I do not like using "series" as a term in English because most people do not think it means anything in this context. I would also possibly go with Daniela's "Section" because there is evidence in her link that this may be the correct answer. As for Gianluca's answer, there is a small possibility this could also be correct.

Therefore I am hoping that this question will stay open for a while and that more people will contribute, or answer will be chosen by community. I do not feel I am in a position to give points on this at this stage, although I do appreciate Judy's opinion (@ Judy: it is the usage of "series" in English that makes me hesitate).

However, if you read Daniela's answer carefully, it refers to "REGISTRI di matrimonio", not "certificati".

And in all the "certificati" I've seen, be it "di nascita" or "di matrimonio", it was always written "serie".

not that it makes much difference really but if the people from the forum "comuni.it" - that is, the people who actually isssue the certificates - say it stands for "serie", I tend to believe them.
