Italian term
stirpe
---
Il razzismo nazional-romano, infatti, puntava su concetti più ambigui, come quelli di stirpe e civiltà.

There is no need to reiterate what I have already stated in the post discussion. And by the way the second stirpe is 'ancestry & culture'

: if (1) refers to the first example capturing the def. art. 'della' of the race and (2) quelli di stirpe... with no article, so the only answer to d/w the difference.

Look how "bloodline" is used here as a synonym for race with a somewhat more positive meaning "The highest race was the ‘Aryan’, of which the Germans were the nearest contem-porary example (though their Aryan purity had been somewhat compromisedby the admission of inferior races into their bloodline)."

I fear you have a concept of irony that is different from mine. Many people think irony is a form of humour. It absolutely is not in this particular context.
Nothing ironic here I'm afraid! This was a paper about the shaping of fascist ideology. I discussed this word heavily with my client, a uni researcher, and he says that stripe and razza are two different concepts in Italian. He explained that that stirpe has more of a cultural connotation than race, which is strictly about science. This paper was all about this difference: while German fascism based its racism on biological factors, the Italian versione was based on a more "spiritual" connotation of what a race actually is, hence the use of stirpe instead of razza. |
Sorry, I should have added that he asked me to use the term "descent". I'm not sure that a perfect translation of the term exists. |
