Italian term

incontinenza uterina

Italian to English Medical Medical (general)
Hi all,

how would you translate "incontinenza uterina" into English. The sentence is the following: "...una gravidanza gemellare interrottasi alla 22° settimana cn parto spontaneo a causa di *incontinenza uterina*..."

I've tried with uterine incontinence, but I couldn't find any exact matching when I googled it.
I have found a lot of "uterine prolapse" but literally the two expressions do not have the same meaning... prolapse and incontinence are two different concepts...
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Anna

Very poetic, SJLD; if would be a (linguistic) crime to delete this entry :) Have a good WE!
SJLD Aug 30, 2012:
Yes well, I won't ask for the moon and the stars...

And they should have the good grace not to argue when told they're wrong.
SJLD Aug 30, 2012:
I know this will be deleted by mods, but please, people without medical knowledge are not obliged to answer medical questions (and mislead the Asker, which could be dangerous)
Anna Goletti (asker) Aug 30, 2012:
Thanks Ellen, but I am not convinced that's what it is intended here...
I think that uterus/uterine incontinence and urinary incontinence are not the same.
In the first case, it is the cause of the loss of a foetus.
Thanks again! I'll wait for more opinions!

Peer comment(s):

disagree SJLD : this certainly exists, but what you need are Italian refs to explain what "incontinenza uterina" means/but you've misunderstood the Italian - obstetrics obviously not your forte
1 hr
No I don't. I need English references to back up my answer as it's the target language.
disagree philgoddard : SJLD is right. You've simply proved that the phrase exists in English, not that it has anything to do with the Italian.
3 hrs
disagree Glenda Janssen : It's not obligatory to have Italian and English references, but in this case even the asker had said that she found many instances of "uterine prolapse" and did not think it was the same thing. Hence, you would have needed to prove why you thought it WAS.
