Selected
made up Italian...
the line appears in the lyrics of the song "Renaissance" by Australian gothic band Virgin Black, from the album "Elegant and Dying". I quite like the album myself, since it reminds me of early Anathema...
Here are the lyrics...
5. Renaissance
And I looked to the air
But the breeze was not cold
I sought for your hand
To hold unto me
I lay awakened
The dew on my brow
Come take my life
God, I'm dying
And the spirits of slumber
Lulled at my side
They tormented my world
And praised at my grave
I gave them a portion
In pursuance of my peace
But they took it and broke it
Where is my hope?
Elegent, undying
Ella mo fare rifare
Unfortunately, it seems that the last line is either made up or badly distorted. To me, as an Italian, it means nothing.
Good choice, though, Tommy.... :-)))

: Unless I'm missing something, I don't think that's what the Italian is saying (although it's so bad it's hard to know what exactly it IS saying!).

: how did you get 'all is lost but hope' from "ella mo fare rifare"?

She's making me do it again
I think that's actually what it's saying, although the Italian is appallingly bad (mo should be mi; fare should be fa).

: It looks like the kid of an Italian migrant (to the US?) using some southern dialect badly. Rowan's meaning is basically correct. The right one probably is : Lei me lo fa rifare/She makes me do it again.

Yes, that's probably it. Thanks Andy.

: it could be the text of an opera (but surely there's a mistake with 'fare')

Fare doesn't sound right the way it's used here. Thanks simonatrad.

: song or no song, this is closest - unless it isn't Italian!

It may be a dialect of some sort. But it looks more Italian than anything else (although "ella" is Spanish). Thanks Amy.
