: a bit of both - although string pulling can be a good interpretation of "raccomandazione", I don't think that it is this meaning in this case! I feel it's more that the person sending the many emails tried to persuade using gentle encouragement....

These are words I recieved from native Americans. I think that since it is literature and casual conversation that just about any word like this would fit.
