All our most sincere thoughts go to the victims of the earthquake, their families

and those who have lost so much.

If you wish to support the Italian Red Cross in Abruzzo, please visit their website at

www.cri.it/donazioni.html.

Donations can be made via PayPal, bank account, postal account and credit card.

You can also donate to the official rescue fund (Italian "Dipartimento di Protezione Civile" - Civil Defence/Protection Department) by sending an empty SMS to the number 4-8-5-8-0 from an Italian mobile (donation of €1) or calling the same number from aTelecom Italia landline (donation of €2).

A % of the sales of the ProZ.com Winespeak Weekend will be donated to the Italian Red Cross pro L'Aquila fund

Our decision not to cancel was dictated by the belief that only by continuing to work and promote Abruzzo can we show our respect for the victims and contribute materially to the recovery of the region.

Welcome to the ProZ.com Italian Winespeak Weekend!

Are you an IT-EN-IT translator specializing in wine texts or wishing to improve your knowledge and skills? Or are you just a wine-lover who wants to learn more, spend quality time with colleagues that share the same passion, and find out what really happens down on the winery? Then this weekend is for you!

Here's our initial programme (subject to adjustment):

Friday: (8.30pm) Park Hotel Primavera hosts the welcome dinner, serving a traditional Abruzzo menu with local wines. Our wine is offered by Tirabuccia http://tirabuccia.com/territorio.html, whose winemaker Andrea Veri, will illlustrate the wines he's chosen to pair with the seafood menu. A chance to meet one of Abruzzo's young wine entrepreneurs! A vegetarian menu is also available.

Saturday:

(9.30am)

A morning stroll through the vineyards with Mr Aquilano, our agronomist

Back to work and our oenologist Mr Seghetti will start revealing the secrets of winemaking

Buffet lunch, with the winery's own products

Visit to the wine cellar and bottling plant

Coffee break with delicious Abruzzo delicacies to keep you going

Our evening closes with traditional Abruzzo fare, in a countryside location, La Berlocca, with wines offered by Franco D'Eusanio from his http://www.chiusagrande.com/. Franco will join us for dinner to talk about his unique wine-making approach.

Sunday morning:

(9.30-12.30)

Giles Watson, our keynote speaker and wine translation specialist will present the intricacies of winespeak, with specific reference to English and Italian.

Coffee included. Optional lunch.

Optional Sunday activity for those not involved in the English terminology workshop: a trip to Guardiagrele and the Sunday market.

Event languages: Italian (targeting English terminology), but you can sign up just for the wine seminar on Saturday if you have different target languages.

The venue is the Dora Sarchese winery in Caldari (near Ortona), in the beautiful Abruzzo countryside.

Our hostess for the weekend is Signora Dora Sarchese, who welcomes us to her home and a winery that has been in the family for generations  (http://www.dorasarchese.it ).
