not quite the same as the "duration of symptoms", which does not include the notion that the symptoms, whatever they are, may change in nature or strength.
Unless the French is being unnecessarily wonvoluted, which it often is, we are talking here about the "duration of progression" rather than the plain "duration of symptoms".
Perhaps the context can sort this out.
