Context:


La bicyclette, le vélo, le VTC, le VTT autant d’activités différentes qui se pratiquent dans différents endroits du Monde.
Dites nous si vous cherchez la rando détente à vélo entre amis ou en famille ou le dépassement de soi sur des peintes caillouteuses et nous vous proposerons le LODGE le plus adapté.

I'm struggling with the above phrase, having never come across "peintes" in this context. I was thinking it may be something like trails?

Any suggestions?

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

As a mountainbiker I can tell you that it is pentes and not côtes that we are attracted to. And definitely for fun, no hazardous course in this case.

@Tony With you on that Tony, seems logical: people throwing themselves down a "hazardous descent" as you so nicely put it and thus having to push out their boundaries (risk, courage, etc.).

@ mmb I must admit I had instinctively read it as DOWNHILL slopes strewn with stones, making for a hazardous descent. Like that old expression "a slippery slope..."

"Des pentes" : A strange choice of term from the original writer; the term that French people would tend to collocate with "le dépassement de soi" would more likely be "des côtes" rather than "des pentes" which they associate with "des descentes (à tombeau ouvert)" which riders gleefully revel in, displaying skill and courage rather than toughing it out in sustained superhuman efforts and endurance. But this contrast is neutralised in English with "slopes" isn't it? or would there be a way to match this French distinction if it was necessary to do so in the target language?
