"Distrito financiero" creo que restringe un poquito el sentido...
Si lo que quieres es evitar la redundancia, casi me inclinaría por dejar “Convention Center” en inglés. O sea “... cerca del ‘Convention Center’ en el centro de Houston”...
Aunque no me parece que repetir ‘Centro’ sea pecado mortal... (como lo muestran los “agrees”...) otras opciones serían “la zona céntrica de Houston” o “el distrito céntrico de Houston” “el núcleo urbano de Houston”... pero como dicen que decía el Quijote: “llaneza, Sancho, llaneza”... ;-)
