agree Jennifer Guernsey : I also like "in patients with..." The first version (which I would change to "in the treatment of...") would work only if it's clear that the device is being used specifically to treat those diseases. // Agree with your comment below also.

Thanks, Jennifer. The version "in the treatment of..." seems to be even better than the "when treating" one. However, in my opinion, these two versions could also be used with the words "patients with" added (e.g., "in the treatment of patients with...")
