Yes, I do know it's the glossary, but not in this context.
A Peruvian farm manager is talking about bananas:
"El gerente destacó los programas de protección que están implementando en cuidado de racimo y protectores de politileno, como también la selección de matas (hijos) para incrementar el volumen y evitar la propagación de plagas..."
What would the correct term here be, I wonder. Perhaps "clones"...? Any banana experts out there?

: Unless there is a specific term used by banana growers, I think "shoots" is better than "suckers" here.

I wasn't 100% sure before looking it up in the dictionary, but the horticultural cloning is called striking, or cutting, and the individual pieces of the plant to be cloned are referred to as "cuttings"

I understand, but all cultivated bananas are clones of the original. So the question is what do you call these 'matas' (cloned shrubs) in this context? It seems Shoots and Suckers are used to refer to the banana babies.
