George makes an excellent point. It may be intentional.

For want of context we don't know whether it's even a self-contained sentence or part of a phrase.

Were it preceded by, e.g. "Por lo menos, duró más..." i.e., longer than her relationships usually do, I think we could safely assume he's deliberately altering the phrase.

Asking for help with a translation and not providing any context is like getting lost in a forest and refusing to tell the rescue services your approximate whereabouts.

el problema es... que la frase tal como se utiliza habitualmente dice "duró MENOS que un merengue en la puerta de una escuela", o que se acabó muy rápido. Un poco más de contexto ayudaría. Es posible que se haya utilizado intencionalmente para dar a entender que la relación duró más de lo esperado.
