English term

They will not eat until they are hungry.

English to Spanish Art/Literary Linguistics grammar
To translate "they won't eat until they are hungry," can you say "no comeran hasta que tengan hambre"? Is this use of subjunctive allowed event though there is no change of subject? Also, is it alright to use present subjunctive after the word "si"?

Discussion

Natalia Pedrosa (X) Mar 19, 2009:
Dear greattkd: To me "No sabe si vayas" sounds totally incorrect, as the right sentence would use the future tense "No sabe si irás". Regards.
greattkd (asker) Mar 19, 2009:
clarification Es solo una pregunta. I had learned that in order to use the subjunctive mood, that a change of subject is necessary. Since my example does not have a change of subject, I was unsure if it was acceptable to use "tengan". Also, is it acceptable to use present subjunctive after the word "si"? Is "no sabe si vayas" correct?
¿Es sólo una pregunta gramática o acerca de un trabajo real? Si es de un trabajo real, ¿nos podrías dar el contexto? También podría significar otra cosa.

"si" in present No sé si vaya.

no comerán hasta tanto tengan hambre

Me parece que es una forma correcta de expresarlo.
"hasta tanto tengan hambre". En ese momento, cuando tengan hambre, empezarán a comer.
