I'm back on the processing charts today...

I thought "titolo" in this context referred to strength or concentration, but the unit of measurement is kg. Can I translate it as "content"? Or should I ignore the fact that the units aren't consistent and stick with "concentration"??????

Here's the little context I have (it's an entry in a table):

"Prelevare un campione per il controllo analitico xxx(Ammonio idrato ³ 12%; Titolo cianuri kg. ............)"

(sorry the symbol doesn't seem to be displayed properly: there should be a "equal to or greater than" symbol before 12%).

Another note for Sabrina :-) Thanks for your reference, but I only found weight expressed in relation to volume - e.g. mg/l, which indeed indicates the concentration of a substance contained in another. In my case, though, the unit of measurement is simply "kg". Maybe I'm just really thick, but I can't figure out how kilos alone can express the relationship of the substance to that in which it is contained :-( Any further explanations would be really welcome!

note for Sabrina Yes, my dictionaries list titre as a possible translation, but my problem remains with the units - I've never heard of titre being measured in kilos...

Sarah, visto il significato di titolo (Rapporto tra la massa di un componente e la quantità complessiva del composto di cui fa parte), penso sia possibile misurare il titolo anche in kg. Del resto lo trovi espresso anche in grammi e milligrammi (http://www.mynet.it/pub/biofin/process.htm)

I basically agree with the answer proposed by Sabrina, and I share your reticence to use titre where the units are Kg, but I think it is still the translation your client is looking for. Another possibility, and perhaps slightly more correct given the context is assay - since they are obviously referring to the cyanide content (by assay) of the product in question.

come detto il titolo si può misurare in % (massa/massa) o (volume/volume; se c'è indicato solo kg, c'è un errore e non si capisce; forse manca la prima parte (magari mg).
