German term

aufklärender Arzt

German to English Medical Medical (general) Informed Consent Form
"Durch Unterzeichnung dieses Dokuments erklären Sie, dass Sie freiwillig an der Substudie teilnehmen möchten.

"Name des Patienten in Druckbuchstaben (oder des gesetzlichen Vertreters) - Unterschrift - Datum

"Name und Titel des ***aufklärenden Arztes*** - Unterschrift - Datum

"Zeuge (falls zutreffend) in Druckbuchstaben - Unterschrift - Datum"

From a form concerning involvement in a clinical trial. Usually I don't have that much trouble with the bits right at the end, but I'm baffled about "aufklärender Arzt". The meaning of "aufklärend" in this context is not at all clear, and the dictionaries aren't really helping.

I have seen the other question about this - could it maybe be "physician obtaining informed consent" here? TIA for your help.

Physician obtaining informed consent

"Physician obtaining informed consent" is a frequently used expression. The meaning of "aufklärend" is that the doctor informs the patient about the procedure and its risks, benefits and alternative choices and then has the patient sign the "informed consent". See first link below for explanation of how to obtain informed consent and second link with a sample "informed consent" form of a cord blood study.

agree John Speese : That sounds good; I've translated a lot of these myself and they are written in plain (i.e., minimal technical jargon, as straightforward as possible) language so that someone with an 8th education can read them.
