German to English Tech/Engineering Food & Drink
A text about refrigerants/cool packs filled with a liquid (tea, juice) for human consumption. I'm looking for something snappy as the term crops up not only in the text but also in the product names and descriptions. Any ideas appreciated! Many thanks!

So far, I have ruled out

edible filling - no, it's a liquid
consumable filling - no, it's not a commodity
potable filling/drinkable filling - too clunky

that leaves me with ... nothing!

Morning Ramey While I appreciate you entering more than one option into the glossary, I think people looking for cold or cool packs (whichever you prefer) will be rather surprised to learn that there are coll(oid) packs to tempt their taste buds.

@Phil Putting the discussion about "snappy" aside for the moment, I don't think your suggestion is as "inclusive" as it should be. From the same link you posted:

filled & fit for consumption I agree, Heike, filling is simply wrong. the emphasis is on the cinsumptiom because the cool packs are usually just filled with water.

Emphasis IMHO emphasis in this text is on the fact that whatever the cool pack is filled with is fit for consumption/comsumable - fruity, hearty, liquid, semi-liquid, mushy or just plain water. Companies that regularly include ice packs with their shipments thus have the opportunity to offer added value. And yes, the ice pack is filled with ..., rather than having a filling - its neither a pastry nor a tooth ;)

Thanks - you're right. It'd rather have filled than filling. Fruity might work in some places but there's stock involved in others.
The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking I'm overthinking. After all, if the original is clunky, some clunkiness might be justified here.

You're right, it is unusual. I think the writer was also struggling to convey the concept and, like me, trying to pack purees (edible) and liquids (drinkable) into one word.

If I enter "verzehrbare Füllung" ... www.google.de only provides two hits, both leading to this question - so I dare say that "verzehrbare Füllung" is not a common German term (maybe a bad translation?).
"verzehrbar" is usually translated as "edible"; if liquids are to be considered, it would be "trinkbar" = "drinkable".

Would be a nice play on words - skipping the filling bit as it must be obvious. You may need two terms - one for the packaging and one for the text. Context would be useful.

"pack" implies the "Füllung" aspect and it`s also obvious that it's for consumption, so you could use this with "ice tea/juice" and it would be perfectly understood

Liquids remain potable

I could be wrong, but I think what it being looked for is indeed factual. It's for an ice-pack. And it probably needs to be refilled by the consumer. So, of course it's going to appeal to him/her. The drink won't be from the manufacturer, so there is no point in making it something snappy. What IS important, however, is that the inner surface is non-toxic. It'd be pretty bad if I go around marketing this great ice-pack that you could use as a type of thermos, and it ends up killing you, or making you very sick.
