From an article about Venice for a tourist magazine:

Sono le cosidette “residenze d’epoca”...inserite tra gli affittacamere o i b&b, ma [che] in realtà rappresentano lussuose locations di un turismo romantico...

I understand "affittacamere" can mean "landlord" (but clearly not here). My best guess for it in context is "guesthouse", but I am looking for the most correct term. Some of the websites of these "affittacamere" call themselves simply hotels.

No, le residenze d'epoca rappresentono lussuose locations. I just gave the main part of the sentence for context. There is no description of affittacamere here.

No one is saying they are the same thing. The "residenze d'epoca" are in the same area ("inserite tra") the affittacamere and the B&Bs. This question is about affittacamere.

rooms for rent

Vicino alla stazione di Venezia se prendi la prima calle a sinistra c'e un panello con scritto" rooms for rent" che non sono i "Bed &Breakfast" ma solo affitacamere che di solito non hanno anche la colazione.
Sono sicura che non si trovano solo a Venezia ma anche in altre citta turistiche:)
