in Mexico, what is the connotation of directly addressing a Roman Catholic priest to his face in conversation as "padrecito?" Is it disrespectful, respectful, subtly insulting, or ...?
what would a good English translation of padrecito be? If you called a priest "little father" in English that would be demeaning for sure.

I think this option reflects the religiosity of this situation more closely, while "dear father" could be used by the progeny of someone who isn't necessarily living a life that is very religious at all.
