Walla Walla & Kala Kala Nov 30

《Chief Seattle says: “屋里,屋里;客来,客来!”》

The Seattle area has a lot of American Indian culture and heritage. From the names of cities and towns to names of rivers and hills, from totem poles of eagles, fish and bears to unique flowers and fruits, this western end of the US continent has a lot of things that are reminiscent of the Indians who inhabited this area 150 years ago. The city of Seattle for example, is named after a respected Indian tribal leader Chief Seattle. If I live here long enough, I may have to learn some native American language to get around. At this point, the only thing I have learned is “哇啦,哇啦” 叫!I don't know what it means yet, but I would like to think it means 屋里.

The Kalakala of the 1950s

The Kalakala ferry boat retired in 1967, this is a mural painting of it in the town of Port Angeles. From this town, you can take a ferry ride across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the Canadian city of Victoria, a popular tourist destination with beautiful gardens and museums and European style buildings. Some 20 years ago, one did not need a visa to go to Canada, a US driver's license was all they needed. Nowadays, a passport is required.

Dec 1

David Shen wrote:

Good tea is in the leaves, not on the package Dec 10
